Services (Basic): Add to Invoices

The Services feature allows you to create itemized invoices and keep detailed records.

You can add services to invoices while manually sending them to clients or add them via automation using invoice templates.

Adding Services When Creating & Sending an Invoice

To add services to invoices sent manually:

1. Create a new invoice by clicking + NEW in the left sidebar, then selecting Invoice from the slide-out menu—or you can also edit an already existing one

2. Click the Line Item link in the Line items section and start typing the name of the service in the Service name field. You also can type Service name that doesn't exist, add the price to the RATE field and save it as a new service by clicking three dots to the right od the Line item and selecting Save as a new service in a drop-down.

  • You can select any previously created service.
  • Link as many services as needed.

3. Change the QTY field if the number of services you are providing is more than one (the default value). For example, if you’re preparing three years of past-due 1040 returns, enter 3. The Amount field automatically updates. If you’re including only one, you don't need to change the default value.

4. If you need to change the service rate for any other reason, edit the RATE field.

5. If you want tax to be included—mark the checkbox in the TAX field.

Adding Services When Creating an Invoice Template

When adding services to invoices that are sent automatically, you’ll need to include them in your invoice template:

1. Go to Settings from the left sidebar, select Templates in the menu bar, Invoices, then either click Create Template or edit an existing one.

2. Click the Line Item link in the Line items section and start typing the name of the service in the Service name field. You also can type Service name that doesn't exist, and add the price to the RATE field.

  • You can select any previously created service.
  • Link as many services as needed.

3. Change the QTY field if the number of services you are providing is more than one (which is the default value). For example, if you are creating an invoice template for annual financial statements with a monthly fee of $300, enter 12. The Amount field automatically updates.

4. If you want tax to be included—mark the checkbox in the TAX field.

How to Find Invoices With Specific Services

You can quickly find invoices that contain specific services. Go to the Invoices list, click the Filter button in the top-right corner of the page, select the services next to the Services filter, then click Apply. Once the filter is applied, the list of invoices is narrowed.
